If you’re looking to play airsoft, you might be wondering what clothes you should wear. Airsoft uniforms are important as they can protect you from painful BB shots as well as scrapes and sunburns.

However, knowing what you should wear and what you shouldn’t isn’t always straightforward.
In this article, we will look at the dos and don’ts of airsoft uniforms.
What Should I Wear To Play Airsoft?
If you’re involved in organized or re-enactment games, there may be specific clothing you need to wear depending on your team and your role. However, for casual players, there is no specific uniform for playing Airsoft.
You will need to run and move around freely, so make sure that you’re wearing something comfortable that will give you freedom of movement.
You could even wear athletic gear or jeans and a t-shirt underneath your protective gear.
However, if you’re looking to take things a little more seriously and want to wear a uniform that will not only be comfortable but can also aid you in your game, then you may want to be more specific with your clothing.
General Recommendations
Before we get into specific items of clothing that we would recommend for Airsoft, we have some general guidelines that you should always keep in mind.
Footwear
Your footwear should give your feet and ankles good support. Make sure they have good grip and traction on the soles and that they’re sturdy.
Durability
Being able to move in your clothes is a must. Avoid anything tight and restrictive.
Your clothing should be durable and well-made as you don’t want to spend your time worrying about whether your clothes will split or rip while you’re running around, squatting, or lying on the ground.
However, be careful with how thick and heavy your clothes are. These can protect you, but if you’re playing in the hot and humid summer months, you will soon get sweaty and uncomfortable.
Clothes that are breathable or made from wicking fabrics are a better choice in the heat.
Coverage
Playing airsoft can result in a lot of minor injuries. You can easily become covered in scrapes and welts and hot days can add sunburn to your list of injuries, too.
Look for clothes that will cover as much skin as possible to prevent these little injuries from slowing you down.
Carrying Your Gear
You will need to have some gear with you during the game. Whether it’s extra magazines, radios, water, or other supplies, you will need to carry these with you.
There are several ways to keep your gear close to hand. Backpacks are one of the easiest and most obvious options, but you can also opt for things such as tactical vests or battle belts to store and attach gear.
Whatever method you choose, make sure that the weight of your gear is well-distributed.
Don’t place it all on one side of the body as this will quickly tire you out. If you choose a backpack, always keep it on both shoulders instead of just one, and make sure you pack it evenly.
Best Airsoft Clothing
Now, let’s look in closer detail at some specific clothing and what you should look out for.
Combat Shirts
These are great for airsoft. They’re made from tough fabric that won’t rip easily but is also a wicking fabric, so they won’t make you uncomfortably hot and sweaty.
They have high coverage, also. The zippered collar means that your chest and lower neck are protected from the sun and any scrapes. The long sleeves have velcro-cuff closures to keep your arms covered, too.
Combat shirts fit underneath other protective gear but are also worn a little loose, so you can easily fit a layer or two underneath if the weather calls for it.
Tactical Pants
Tactical pants take all of the key features of military uniforms but offer you more choice. You’ll be able to find the best pants for you more easily if you look for tactical pants instead of concentrating on military surplus gear.
These pants are made for conditions very similar to those you’ll find while playing airsoft. That means that they’re designed to be comfortable but tough.
They won’t restrict your motions and movements and are durable enough to survive scratches and scrapes. Many of them even have knee pads so you can kneel more comfortably while you’re waiting for that perfect shot.
Tactical pants also offer a lot of storage options. As well as the obvious side pockets, some come with other pockets that are designed to hold additional magazines and other important bits of kit.
Hats
We would highly recommend wearing a hat during outdoor games in the summer months.

Spending hours outside under the sun without a hat is the quickest way to either sunburn or heat stroke and that could ruin your entire day or weekend.
A simple baseball cap is all you need. The peak will keep the sun out of your eyes and will protect your head.
In colder weather, beanies are a great addition to your uniform. They’ll not only keep you warm, but they can protect your head from shots and can pad tactical helmets that might be a little too big.
Combat Boots
You can wear sneakers for airsoft but we would recommend combat boots. They will give you better ankle support than sneakers and this can be important when moving quickly over uneven terrain.
Combat boots also have great traction and can be waterproof. It’s best to try combat boots on in person and you will need to break them in before you try and run around for a full day in them.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re looking to buy some new kit for your airsoft uniform or are just using clothing already in your closet, there are some points to take into consideration.
Make sure your clothing covers you from scrapes and sunburn and is durable without being restrictive.
